History: here!

Personality:
Diplomatic - Diplomacy is what Alphinaud is all about. He carries himself well and states his intentions clearly, earning the trust and respect of many. He is adept at considering possibilities and bears in mind a mutual benefit when conducting negotiations. Because of this, he is generally rather persuasive, and even if things do not go entirely according to plan, he isn’t rigid enough to reject having to settle for less. He considers the pros and cons and makes sure to adapt the best policy possible for everyone involved. He certainly prefers verbal arrangements versus having to fight physically and does what he can to avoid the latter.

Scholarly - Hailing from Sharlayan, a land known across Eorzea for its many academies (and particularly the Studium where Alphinaud attended), he received a very proper education. He displays a wide range of knowledge in various subjects, much of what he has absorbed from tomes as he is rather new to traversing the land. Still, he is worldly enough from his readings, and he takes in new information quickly, able to process it with his prior knowledge to make sense of it. He is always eager to learn more, and he enjoys conversation about historical events, happy to share what he knows as well as gain new insight from others.

Rational - Using his knowledge allows him to keep a cool head at most times. While he is prone to negative emotions from time to time, he does his best to separate them from the issue at hand. This enables him to make difficult decisions when necessary, though the emotional backlash might torment him later on. Such judgments make him a fit leader, although his experience in this role turned out poorly. However, he has since learned from those errors is now able to better assess his own weaknesses.

Ambitious - Alphinaud has some big ideas for the realm, and he is dedicated to seeing them through. For example, upon acceptance to the Studium, he introduced himself by saying, “My life's goal is naught less than the salvation of this star!” Completely unashamed by such a grandiose display, he has ever lived, unchangingly, for this very goal. He joins forces with the Warrior of Light because he sees such a future fulfilled in them, and once he becomes a member of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, he is able to get close to the imminent matters pressing the realm. Through his accounts, he has a realization that ought to aid his cause: the formation of a Grand Company not dedicated to any one country, but to the realm itself— the Crystal Braves. While a sound plan based on purehearted intentions, the group is used against him. After such a major setback, he is devastated, but he picks himself up again and continues his quest to ensure his vision nonetheless.

Earnest - Looking back at his acceptance speech to the Studium, Alphinaud tends to be an open book. He is forthright with his feelings and his intentions, another aspect of him that allows others to perceive him as trustworthy. He puts his entire being into everything he does. He isn’t afraid to throw himself into danger if it’s for the sake of his friends or for the very realm itself. Rather, he somewhat begins to seek it out, wanting to put in as much effort and sacrifice as his loyal companions do. He has such a positive outlook on things that his affirmations can be very reassuring. When he promises to do something, after all, he won’t rest until it’s done.

Self-conscious - Certain events, such as the ordeal with the Crystal Braves, have caused him to reflect greatly on his character. While his goals haven’t shifted, his perception of the proper path towards them has, and… With a single blade at his throat, he realizes the constant danger that the Warrior of Light faces— a danger which he depended on and encouraged without a thought that anything could actually go wrong. As such, he’s become kinder with his requests. Even if a task leaves no option but for the Warrior to comply, he requests permission and apologizes for having to rely on them solely. Furthermore, while Alphinaud has always displayed a maturity beyond his years, there is another part of him that remains an innocent child. He embarrasses easily when teased, and he is embarrassed when forced to recall his past failures. Despite how he feels about the intention, he harbors each memory within his heart for the sake of self-improvement and is constantly looking for ways to better himself.

Always Keep In Mind: Alphinaud has grown extensively from his first appearance, becoming more mature and self-sufficient. That said, he has his setbacks, his regrets, and can get down in general from time to time. He is rather candid about his feelings regardless, since he knows the value of friendship and the sharing of burdens. He will be a great ally to anyone who wishes it, and in turn, each friendship to him would be worth their weight in gold.

Questions: Write an IC answer to the following questions:

What do you want to study at Diatu Magicademy?

All that I am able, should you permit me. I won’t know the true value of any magicks until I’ve studied them thoroughly. However, I will admit that I have a personal curiosity in Sunderings. I wish to know more about how I was brought here, as well as the extent of its capabilities.

If you knew you could go back to the moment you left, would you leave immediately or continue your studies for a while?

That is rather difficult to decide here and now. Should the teachings here prove beneficial to my operations at home, I may choose to remain. However, I happened to be in a rather delicate situation, which does require my urgent attention.

Nonetheless, this is a hypothetical question, yes? My understanding has been that return is, as of yet, not possible, but a solution is being studied by the day. Are you saying that we will be offered this choice upon its availability?

If your enemy was at Diatu Magicademy, how would you react?

Is this to say that it’s possible for more Sundereds to arrive…? I am not sure of the probability of this occurring, but I shall oblige regardless. I currently have a number of enemies— not mine personally, mind, but obstructions to our cause nonetheless. Should any one of them appear here…

I cannot rightly say. They would be as I am now, out of their element and lacking their usual strength. The polarity of our missions would be of no consequence here. Reasonably, there ought to be no reason to pursue them unless they should try to harm any of the fellow students or residents of this land.

In the event that they do pose a threat, I shall then engage them as necessary.

When is it acceptable to resolve a dispute by force?

Though I labor to ever call it “acceptable,” there are times when negotiations simply are not enough. I would make such a decision when weighing the outcomes. An important ally, for example, who would be swayed only by fists. A head of an oppressive empire who is personally responsible for countless deaths, tragedies, and injustices… In these times, we do as needs must, however I will do my utmost to ensure that it is indeed the last possible solution.

What should the supreme goal of any wizard be?

Wizard or not, every man should strive for the betterment of himself and his brethren. If knowledge or power is the result of serious study, then it must be put to use for everyone’s benefit. Too often have I seen personal ambitions give rise to treachery and despair. I believe that the supreme goal ought to be the realization of this duty. One must know one’s course and hold true to it.

Special Considerations

Your Special Something: Secret Knowledge

Rank Your House Choice:

1st: Gekronus Maius
2nd: Eaither
3rd: Ka

Powers: If he is able to get his grimoire, he has special abilities that he could cast from that. I assume these would be separate regains from the item itself, but its powers are as follows:

Ruby Carbuncle - Ability to summon a cute little red familiar to fight at his side.
Obsidian Carbuncle - Ability to summon a cute little red familiar to fight at his side; possibly a bit stronger than Ruby Carbuncle.
Ruin III - Deals unaspected damage with a potency of 120; a combat skill.
Physick - Restores HP with a potency of 400; a regenerative skill.
Tri-shackle - Deals unaspected damage with a potency of 30 to target and all targets nearby it; a combat ability that also binds targets within a set radius.
Starstorm - A special Limit Break which delivers an area-of-effect attack with a potency of 3000; a very powerful combat skill.

Items: His grimoire, Adelphoi:

“Alphinaud's grimoire is one of a set Louisoix crafted for his grandchildren. Alone, it enables an arcanist to channel his magicks with ease, allowing for complex incantations. When wielded in tandem with Alisaie's grimoire, however, new arcane geometries appear, and its true power is made manifest.”

Anything Else: Nothing I can think of; thank you for your time!
